Konecranes delivers Reach Stackers to Washington United Terminal in the USA

time2012/06/24

Washington United Terminal (WUT), part of Hyundai Merchant Marine Co., Ltd., located in the Port of Tacoma, Washington, has opted again for Konecranes heavy-duty lift trucks. The order comprises three Reach Stackers, optimized for handling over the second rail, to be delivered in 2012.

WUT ordered their first Reach Stacker from Konecranes in 2011. After testing it and using it extensively, they decided to buy three more units.

“This order follows WUT’s order and delivery of one Reach Stacker in late 2011. It’s a vote of confidence in Konecranes’ ability to provide Reach Stackers of an extremely high lifting capacity and environmental standard together with local service support.  We are delighted to once again be selected as the supplier to WUT,” says Phil Stevens, Sales Manager for Konecranes Lift Trucks in the USA.

WUT is located in the Port of Tacoma on the Blair Waterway – a valuable gateway to Asia. WUT offers a wide range of capablilities and services including cost-effective and advanced cargo handling. WUT has several container cranes that are supported by a well-maintained fleet of tractors, reach stackers, side-loaders and top-pickers. They are strong in container handling and able to work with two container ships simultaneously.

The Port of Tacoma is a major center for container cargo, bulk, breakbulk, automotive and heavy-lift cargo. The port has become one of the largest container ports in North America and one of the top 50 in the world. The Port encompasses about 2,400 acres of land and handles about 1.5 million containers per year.

“Konecranes trucks are well-proven in our fleet: their reliability, performance and fuel economy has led us to order Konecranes once again,” comments WUT’s Operational Manager Jeff Podgorski. “This positive operating experience also influenced our decision to take on second rail handling.”
